Wasted on a Girl

I had a drainage problem in my downward-sloped driveway fixed recently. Water wasn't draining where it should have, ran around the side of the house, and washed away the soil and plants. After the drain was repaired, I had some topsoil delivered so I could fill in what had washed away over a couple years (and add some topsoil in a few other places too).

This is the dirt that's been sitting in our yard. Since last Friday. And it never even occurred to Clare to play in it!

If Clare weren't such a girl, I'd probably have to scrape the dirt from her body after playing in this construction truck dreamland. And I'd find trucks still in the dirt when I finally wanted to use it. I almost ran across the street to ring the neighbors' doorbell and ask if their boys could grab some trucks and come out to play.

I think I did entertain the neighbors though. They must have enjoyed watching me try to move that much dirt with this wheelbarrow.

I'm not even sure how we got this Fisher Price model—Clare has never used it. I guess I should be glad though to have a kid who doesn't mess with my dirt and whose fingernails I don't have to scrub dirt out of—I just have to do that to my own.

As for the wheelbarrow, using that one lasted about two minutes before I realized I needed a real one.

My boys would have been all over that. They dig into anything that is remotely diggable. Maybe we should drive over to your house for an afternoon.

The boys will be there in the morning.

Can Sweet Pea come over? Both of our kids loved using their Little Tykes wheelbarrow whenever I used mine.

When I was Clare's age I'd have been all up in that pile of dirt! And my boys now would LOVE it! In fact, the main attraction at the farm isn't the creek or the animals or the equipment...it's the dirt pile!

We had dirt delivered and our kids were on it like white on rice. And since we believe in slave labor, they were "playing in it" as we moved the dirt to various places around the house.

Heck, we have to yell at our girls to keep out of the dirt pile (they're a little bigger and it compacts it too much :)

So when can we send them over?

it's not a girl thing - it's a clare thing. My littlest sister would totally still play in that.

My boys would have been on that pile like two monkeys on a cupcake.

My daughter definitely is a girlie-girl... she still would have at least been climbing it.

Oh, and thanks, I finally feel better about my broken down old wheel barrel with a flat tire. Then again, mine may work a bit better, yours was definitely more stylish.

Zoe would have been in that pile in no time. She would have found your water hose and made it an enormous mud pie, though.

Hilarious!
I probably would have done the same

My eldest daughter (though being a girly girl) still amazes me at how much she wants to help out...so if I had all that dirt, she would probably be out tere with her shovel asking "Can I Help???"
